Blanche

Blanche comes to visit her sister Stella in New Orleans after losing their family plantation Belle Reve. Blanche is extremely concerned about her aging appearance and material things and has high anxiety.

Stella

Blanche’s younger sister. Stella left their wealthy estate in Mississippi to marry a man her sister considers “common.” She is expecting her first child.

Stanley

Stella’s husband. Stanley is a man who loves women and presenting himself as masculine.

Mitch

Stanley’s friend, Mitch likes to bowl and play poker. He has an aging mother whom he cares for. Mitch starts dating Blanche soon after her arrival.

Eunice

Stanley and Stella’s upstairs neighbor. Eunice lets Stella spend the night when she and Stanley have a fight.

Steve

Eunice’s husband as well as a buddy of Stanley’s. Steve and Eunice get into a colossal fight when Eunice accuses him of cheating on her.

Pablo

A buddy of Stanley’s and a member of the group that gathers to play poker together.

A Young Collector

A young man who comes to Stella and Stanley’s door collecting for the Evening Star. Blanche is attracted to his youth and sends him off with a kiss.

A Tamale Vendor

This man sells his wares at Elysian Fields. His calls can often be heard as interjections in different scenes, along with the comments of a Negro woman and the sales calls of a Mexican woman.

A Doctor

Stella brings this doctor in at the end of the play in order to take Blanche away to an institution.
